What is it + What does it do?: A Waxy (sherbet)-textured cleansing balm that melts away makeup and dirt from the skin without stripping the skin.

Supposedly Good for: All Skin Types.

What I think: I would agree! I do think Dry Skins tend to prefer cleansing balms > Oily skins however, I do think Sensitive, Sensitised + Dehydrated Skins could enjoy this balm.

Directions: ”Use the spatula to dispense product. Apply onto a dry face and massage into the skin. Then rinse off and wash with a foam cleanser if necessary.”

How I use it: I use this to dissolve/remove makeup only. I don’t think it’s a necessary cleanser to use if I’m simply washing the face or removing SPF as I think this removes makeup so efficiently, I don’t want to use this kind of cleansing power simply to remove SPF and waste product. I scrape the sides of the tub and use a coin-sized amount to cover both my face, neck and eyes. I take my time rubbing and gently massaging.

As this does not sting the eyes, I am able to massage my lashes and lash line etc. then, I just wash this off (it emulsifies so it’s easy to wash off). Because I really take my time to massage the skin to remove product, I don’t find that I need to double cleanse, but if you are wearing very heavy makeup, then going in with a hydrating cleanser could be helpful.

Key Ingredients: Sea Buckthorn Berry Oil + Rice Bran Oil + Rice Seed Water (Antioxidant + Emollient). Oat Meal Extract (Soothing). The Moisturising/Hydrating Ingredients are: Glycerin, Propanediol, Butylene Glycol + Caprylyl Glycol.

  • Beauty of Joseon state that the use of Rice Seed Water is what prevents this product from stripping the skin of its natural moisture. I would add the Sea Buckthorn oil and Rice Oil also help, as well as the moisturising/hydrating ingredients mentioned.

Full Ingredients: Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, PEG-20 Glyceryl Triisostearate, Synthetic Wax, PEG-10 Isostearate, Lactobacillus/Soybean Ferment Extract, Hippophae Rhamnoides Oil, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Seed Water, Avena Sativa (Oat) Meal Extract, Coix Lacryma-Jobi Ma-yuen Seed Extract, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, Water, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Glycerin, Propanediol, Butylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin

NOTE: The Incidecoder have a full ingredient breakdown HERE

Texture: You can definitely tell that this has a wax base. As you can see from the swatch video below, I can apply the product onto the skin and it wont immediately start melting. It looks like waxy sherbet and once I start rubbing, the product melts into the skin quite easily! Yes you get little bits of waxy product on the skin that melts and then becomes smooth, but doesn’t drip down the skin (so you can keep massaging along the concentrated areas you want).

Feels the same as: The Good Molecules Instant Cleansing Balm: Review HERE.

Doesn’t feel as smooth/buttery/whipped + lightweight as: The Wishful Skin Clean Genie Cleansing Balm: Review HERE or the Juno Skin Clean 10 Cleansing Balm: Review HERE.

It’s also easy to wash this off and does not leave a greasy/oily residue.

Do you see how the balm will still hold its shape after digging into the product?

Hopefully you can see that kind of waxy/sherbet texture.

An opaque scoop of product that’s not entirely smooth. It doesn’t immediately melt on the skin.

You can see the product becomes translucent the more you massage it into the skin, and it melts just fine.

Good at Removing Makeup?: As you can see from the makeup removal video above (used 1 Liquid Lipstick and 2 regular lipsticks); yes; this is definitely an adequate makeup remover! This needs some massaging into the skin (about 30 seconds)

Does this Sting if the Skin has been Irritated / Sensitised by Shaving/Heavy Retinol Use?:

Fragrance?: No added Fragrance and/or Essential Oils (This also doesn’t smell of anything either).

How long have I been using this?: 3 Months.

Will I use until Completion?: Yes!

How Long will that take?: My sister is now also using this a lot (as she’s fallen in love), so it might take me <2 Months to finish this.

The Effect?: Efficiently Makeup-removed Skin that doesn’t feel painfully tight or dry after cleansing.

What I like:

  • Fragrance + EO Free
  • Comes with a Hygiene Tab + Spatula
  • Efficient Makeup Remover / Dissolver
  • Doesn’t make my face feel tight + dry after cleansing
  • Travel-friendly packaging
  • Didn’t irritate/worsen my skin
  • Doesn’t sting my eyes

What I don’t like:

  • Not the smoothest most luxurious or buttery texture (like the Juno Cleansing Balm or the Wishful Skin Cleansing Balm)

Overall Rating and Conclusion: 4.3/5 – Is this the most luxurious-feeling Balm? No. BUT it does do the job, and I appreciate that this doesn’t leave the skin feeling tight or dry after cleansing! I like the sturdy, travel-friendly packaging too and that this genuinely does remove makeup quite well. The only let down is the texture not being as pleasant as other cleansing balms I’ve tried, but this definitely is a balm that does the job and doesn’t hurt the skin while it’s at it!

Would I repurchase?: Although the texture isn’t my favourite and the experience isn’t as luxurious as Wishful Skin or Juno Skin, I would repurchase this if I was travelling and needed to bring just ONE makeup dissolver/remover, and also because this comes with a spatula and good travel-friendly packaging.

Dupe?: This feels the same as the Good Molecules Instant Cleansing Balm (HERE) however in terms of makeup dissolving; this is just as good as the Juno Skin Cleansing Balm (HERE).

My Skin Type: I am acne prone and have slightly dehydrated combo skin. My skin is usually tight where the cheeks and eye area is and the outer parts of my face. My T zone is oily. My skin isn’t a fan of thick/heavy formulas so I opt for lightweight formulas to prevent it from clogging up. My skin doesn’t like essential oils either and I try to avoid fragrance when I can.
