Gathering the correct materials for Firefly’s Ascension in Honkai: Star Rail is a vital step in maxing out her level and Traces, which then allows you to focus on her build. Firefly is a new 5-star character added with Version 2.3, a patch that follows the conclusion of the Penacony story arc in Version 2.2, but that continues seeing more content introduced into the RPG by HoYoverse. Along with Jade, Firefly is one of the new characters in Honkai: Star Rail 2.3 banners. In combat, Firefly uses Fire DMG and follows the Path of the Destruction, making her a DPS.
This article contains a few spoilers for the Penacony storyline.
As was revealed throughout the story, Firefly is actually the person who operates the Sam suit, known as a member of the Stellaron Hunters. This, logically, is translated into her gameplay kit. When using Firefly, players can transform her into Sam and use Firefly at her peak performance, dealing massive amounts of damage to several opponents, even if at the cost of her life to do so. Before being able to use Sam’s powers, however, you should farm all the materials for Firefly in Honkai: Star Rail so that you can take her to level 80 as quickly as possible.

Ascension Materials To Farm For Firefly In Honkai: Star Rail
All Materials Can Be Pre-Farmed
While not everything has been formally addressed by the developer, all of Firefly’s required materials for both her Ascension and Trace-leveling process have been revealed through leaks. According to the database Honey Hunter World, all of the materials used by Firefly can already be pre-farmed before her official release in the game. She is, allegedly, not dependent on any new material being added with the Version 2.3 update, so players can already gather everything needed to max Firefly out as soon as they obtain her in Honkai: Star Rail 2.3.
The table below lists all the materials required for Firefly’s Ascension, divided by level threshold, and condensed for the grand total:

The first materials needed for Firefly’s Ascension are Tatters of Thought, Fragments of Impression, and Shards of Desire. These three items are all part of the same item family and have increasing rarities, respectively. These items drop from Memory Zone Meme enemies, which can be found through Penacony’s maps, as well as in the Simulated Universe. You can also grab these materials from Assignments, but the steadiest source of these Firefly materials is from Calyx (Golden) activities in Penacony. Be sure to use the Omni-Synthesizer in Honkai: Star Rail to transform lower-grade materials into better ones as Firefly’s needs increase.
These three materials are also used in Firefly’s Talent-leveling process, so it is recommended that you farm a large surplus of these items, as a lot more will be needed once you start working on her abilities.
The second material used by Firefly when getting her past her Ascension thresholds is Raging Heart. This is an Ascension material used exclusively by some Fire characters in the game. Raging Heart can only be farmed from the Stagnant Shadow: Shape of Ire activity located in the City Sandpit map in Dewlight Pavilion on Penacony. Seeing that 65 copies of Raging Heart are needed, you will need to challenge this activity at least 12 times if you are challenging the Stagnant Shadow in Honkai: Star Rail at its highest difficulty.
For reference, the City Sandpit map is the miniature model city located in the center of Dewlight Pavilion’s salon, where you are shrunken down. If you have not manually revisited the area after your obligatory passage during the story, the area’s Space Anchor and the Stagnant Shadow will still be blocked.
In addition to the materials, you will also be required to invest some Credits into the Ascension process. In total, unlocking all Ascension level thresholds will run you 308,000 Credits. If you are leveling up Firefly by using Character EXP Materials, you will spend an additional 508,000 Credits. If you are ever in need of more Credits, you can farm the currency at Calyx (Golden): Bud of Treasure activities. If you do farm Credits, do so in Penacony, so you optimize your farming process and gather Tatters of Thought and its evolved forms in Honkai: Star Rail.

Farm An Abundance Of Materials

Once you get Firefly to level 80, you should consider leveling up her Traces, which dictate her active and passive abilities. This is a much more expensive process and can be time-consuming given some weekly farming limitations, so pre-farming is the best way to circumvent that downtime. As was previously mentioned, Tatters of Thought, Fragments of Impression, and Shards of Desire are all used in Firefly’s Traces, too, so be sure to farm these from Memory Zone Memes, preferably through Calyx (Golden) activities on Penacony or through daily Assignments.
The table below lists everything you need to farm to fully upgrade all of Firefly’s abilities in Honkai: Star Rail:

You will also need to farm Destruction-exclusive materials used by Firefly. Borisin Teeth, Lupitoxin Sawteeth, and Moon Madness Fang can be farmed at the Calyx (Crimson): Bud of Destruction activity located in Scalegorge Waterscape. These three items are all part of the same item family, so, as Firefly’s demands in rarity increase, use the Omni-Synthesizer to transform lesser materials into better ones.
Prior to Firefly’s release, only Misha used these three materials Destruction materials.
At higher levels, you will also need to farm a boss material called Lost Echo of the Shared Wish. You can farm this item by defeating The Great Septimus boss in Honkai: Star Rail. This boss needs to be unlocked through the campaign, but once you conclude the story arc in Penacony, you can challenge it up to three times per week. Not many Lost Echo of the Shared Wish are needed, but the limitation can delay Firefly’s complete upgrade a bit.
Also at higher levels, you will need Tracks of Destiny. One copy of this item can be farmed weekly at the Simulated Universe activity, though you can gather more from the Embers Exchange shop, as well as from limited-time events. To wrap up Firefly’s Trace-leveling process, you will need to invest a large sum of Credits, which can be farmed at Calyx (Golden): Bud of Treasure activities.

The process of Ascending Firefly to level 80 and maxing out her abilities is not too complicated, especially given that all her materials could be pre-farmed, but it can be time-consuming if you have to start from scratch. Nevertheless, this is a vital step, as doing so will allow you to then focus on her build and transform Firefly into a powerful main DPS in Honkai: Star Rail.
